Being named in honour of the famous priest Saint Vincent de Paul, Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul is a famous Roman Catholic cathedral in Tunis. Considered as the headquarters of the Diocese of Tunis, this place of worship is a landmark of the French stay in Tunis.
Situated in the Place de l'Indépendence in the Ville Nouvelle, this cathedral lies on crossroads between Avenue Habib Bourguiba and Avenue de France. Being the example of the largest surviving building of the colonial period in Tunis, this religious place is located just opposite to the French embassy.
Opened in the year 1897 on the day of Christmas, the church was built in a Moorish, Gothic, and Neo-Byzantine style. Comprising of special area for prayers, the church also has a tomb of the Unknown Soldier. To observe the splendor and to offer prayers, Cathedral of St. Vincent de Paul is a well-known place among all worshipers and tourists. Every year it is flocked by a large number of tourists.
