Considered as a main hub of merchants and business travelers visiting Tunisia, Sfax is the second largest city as per number of inhabitants. The city is not only a Mediterranean port but is also Sfax Governorate’s capital. Though it is not a tourist place but still the city is loved by merchant groups. Being one of the best areas in the country to buy souvenirs, Sfax is far cheaper than other Tunisian cities. Founded in AD 849, it is an old city established on the ruins of Taparura and Thaenae. Adding a metropolitan spirit to the ancient charm of Sfax are the streets filled with shops and restaurants. It lies in southeast direction of Tunis at a distance of around 270 km.
