Bardo Museum
Located in the suburbs of the capital city of Tunis , Bardo Museum is one of the main attractions and a national museum of Tunisia. Originally a 13th century Hafside palace, the museum is considered as a significant landmark of architecture. Its vaulted ceilings, galleries and cupolas are the excellent works of Arab-Moslem style of 17th and 18th centuries.
Bardo Museum Tunis is mainly noted for its collection of Roman mosaics. Along with this magnificent display, visitors can see a fine and vast display of antiquities not only from Tunisia but from Ancient Greece and Arab world. The museum showcases a wide range of objects, from pre-historical period to modern times and from artifacts and jewelry.
Also known simply as The Bardo, this Tunisian national museum displays works from various periods of Tunisian history like Punic, Roman, early Christian and Islamic. Even the exhibitions are lined up according to the periods, starting from Prehistoric collection that includes art pieces up to 40,000 years old. The Punic era stock mainly focuses on the time of Hannibal and consists of masks, amulets and jewelry.
Apart from exhibitions and collections, Bardo Museum Tunis additionally features a museum shop where visitors can buy a variety of things. To satisfy your hunger thirst, there is a refreshment venue too. Bardo Museum opens everyday except Monday from 9:00-17:00.
