Set beautifully along side the streets in the souks, the Great Mosque is a well-known worship area in Hammamet. Considered as an Islamic site consisting of artifact collections, this mosque is located in the middle of the city.
Built around 15th century, the great mosque is created in a blend of Turkish and Moorish styles with the old rectangular minaret on the top. The whole mosque is designed and built in a very simple style without any decorations. Only a string of angular Arabic and curved arches are used for decoration, even prayers rooms are covered in red mats instead of usual carpet. The upper part shows the mosque is surrounded by two towers and gardens.
Close to the Sidi Abdel Kader Mosque which is now used as a Koranic school, the mosque is opened for all. While visiting this place you should be properly dressed and can use the green wraps by paying some token money.
