Tunisian beauty, culture, arts, lifestyle and last not the least Tunisia’s history is not unknown from anyone. The historic Tunisian train, the Lézard Rouge is one of the famous trains in Tunisia. Specially running for tourists, this train travels across the desert floor towards the mountains.
Presently running from Metlaoui to Redeyef, Lezard Rouge daily leaves from Metlaoui except on Mondays. Covering the whole distance in 40 minutes, this train provides a glimpse of the flat rocky desert that surrounds this Southern Tunisian, sparkling mountain springs and deep ravines. Besides the old fashion charm of the train, this train runs alongside the local market and gives a long whistle throughout the whole journey.
Being once known as the royal train the Bey of Tunisia, earlier Lezard Rouge was used to serve the phosphate mines from Metaloui. The track was originally used as the mining trains carrying phosphates.
On every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday the trains depart at 10.30 am and on Tuesday and Friday it left at 10'o clock in the morning.
